We all, at some point, have judged a book by its cover. Well, we all know the metaphor never to do that. But as adults, we can't help defeating our pre-judgements and misconceptions on people. Well, we don't want it for ourselves. We hate being judged, but we judge anyway.
Nikki Waler knows it all. When she and her two kids went to a grocery store one day, they parked at one of the four empty handicap parking spaces. She even hanged a handicap placard in the rearview mirror before going in the store.
But when she went back, she was rather disappointed and offended with the note attached in her car which mocks their usage of the handicapped space. Clearly, whoever who wrote that note judged their perfectly seeming family without knowing the whole story. What they didn't know was that her youngest son Alex has ankle braces underneath his jeans. He is diagnosed to have juvenile arthritis and without the braces, he can easily injure himself and walking around makes it really painful.
Both Alex and his mom was devastated with the letter as it was insensitive and downright rude. This compelled Nikki Waler to post on her Facebook page and raise awareness to less-visible disabilities.
