Following the straightforward accusations of President Duterte against the Liberal party last Monday on having plans to unseat him by highlighting human rights violations and has said: “Let’s not fool ourselves. Do you know who’s behind this? It’s the yellow." ,Robredo spoke up about the issue.
In a speech in the Pre-dinner conference at Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City, Robredo addressed the issue and assured everyone that she and the LP which she belong to, fully supports the President and said: He’s our only President and he deserves our support. We can’t afford, as a country, to have another upheaval,”
She also pointed out that the success of the President will be the success of the nation and any plans of destroying him will be directed to doing so to the country.
The Vice President who is also now the chairperson of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) arrived at Mactan Cebu International Airport at about 5pm for her third official visit in the city. She noted that she doesn't even to know where the rumors are coming from as the LP hasn't met as a party ever since the May Elections. She even said that LP members in the House of Representatives and the Senate formed an alliance with Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), a majority party to support the President.
“Nothing has changed,” she said assuring that she is still in full support for the President and that she aims to clarify these matters to the President. She also noted that support doesn't mean agreeing all the time, but to also agree to disagree.
One of these is when President Duterte plans to pull out American Soldiers in Mindanao. “I think the President is really looking into this matter. He will decide accordingly. I think this is the President’s statement that shows we are seeking an independent foreign policy. It would be good for our country to pursue an independent foreign policy, but I just hope this wouldn’t be done in haste,”she said.
She also pointed how civillian safety should be top priority. “While that is their basic obligation, we also need to do everything we can to protect them,” said Robredo.
