Being an entrepreneur takes a lot of gut and skill, according to most people. But little do people know about the work that goes into being the best customer-friendly one can be and up to what extent a person can give.
But for Austin Simms of Roanoke, Virginia, he thought that his customer’s manners is now something he should takes into his own hands.
The CUPS Coffee and Tea owner puts up sign saying that the more impolite you are, the more you are going to have to pay.
“One small coffee”
$ 5.00
“One small coffee, please”
$ 3.00
“Hello, I’d like one small coffee please.”
$ 1.75
People are so busy most of the time when they go get their cup of coffee, that they forget their manners in asking for their fix, and that the one’s serving them are only just human beings as well.
“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter,” Simms said.
He wrote the sign one day and the next few days were a pleasant surprise to him. People from all over the world took recognition of this new initiative of instilling manners.
A newspaper in England featured a photo of the sign, then went viral on the internet. Eventually, a swarm of news cameras showed up at the store.
