The Sandiganbayan granted former Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay, Jr.’s request to travel to the United States to bring his daughter to a medical specialist.
GMA News Online said, in a motion submitted to the Sandiganbayan Third Division last week, Binay asked the anti-graft court to allow him to travel to the United States from August 14 to 26 with his six-year-old daughter for an urgent medical consultation.
Through his legal counsels, Binay said his six-year-old daughter Maria Kennedy is suffering from a very uncommon disease called staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome and that her pediatrician recommended that they see an allergologist and immunologist based in Lon Angeles, California for a second opinion.
The anti-graft court set several conditions for allowing the former mayor to travel abroad which include a P608,000-travel bond and that he should leave the Philippines not earlier than August 15 and be back not later than August 24.
Likewise, the court said his travel itinerary must be limited to Los Angeles.
Five days after returning to the country, Binay must present himself to the Sandiganbayan Third Division clerk of court and present documentary evidence of his travel indicating the dates of his departure from and arrival to the country. He must also show proof that his daughter underwent medical check-up.
The Sandiganbayan said that should Binay fail to comply with the conditions set in the resolution, the court would forfeit his bail and travel bond as well as issue a warrant for his arrest.
