Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, the vice-presidential candidate partner of President Duterte, defended the anti-drug campaign of the present administration against Senator Leila de Lima’s allegations on extrajudicial killings.
Senator De Lima, former Justice secretary and chair of Commission on Human Rights, has criticized the administration for the increasing number of deaths who are allegedly victims of the summary killings.
With this, Senator Cayetano urged De Lima not to jump into conclusions until summary killings are proven. In his privilege speech, he shared that the administration is also aware of the killings that has been happening but he emphasized that the President himself wants these deaths to be investigated.
He also urged the senate to build the nation through supporting the anti-drug campaign. He ended the speech into encouraging the senate to be united not just in human rights investigations but also in building up the police in doing their jobs.
