The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has rescued 11 trafficked women; nine of them are minors, from prostitution activities during a raid at a condominium in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City on Thursday.
NBI senior investigator Anna Labao said the rescued women who came from different provinces were convinced to work in Metro Manila as ‘models’, but instead they were offered as sex workers to foreign nationals who play in casinos.
Each of them are sold to foreigners for P15,000 to P25,000.
Labao said the women’s parents were not aware that their daughters ended up working as prostitutes as they were not allowed to use cell phones and were restricted from roaming around on their own.
NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin said the women were promised 60-percent share in their earnings, but eventually were not given to them.
Five persons, who are allegedly sex den operators, were arrested during the raid. The arrested suspects were identified as Nehemiah Jalgalado Velasquez, Hillary Santos, Adrian Rivares, Orlando Baloloy Abarc and Alex Campita Balane.
The drug den operators, who served as handlers or agents for the women sex workers, were charged for violating Anti Trafficking in Persons Act.
Four vehicles with “No.8” plates, which are issued to congressmen, were also found in the sex den during the raid.
The vehicles which include a Jaguar, a Ford Expedition, a Hyundai Starex and a Toyota Avanza are said to be owned by the bosses of the arrested persons.
Only the Toyota Avanza was seized by the NBI after one suspect admitted that he used it to bring sex workers to their clients.
The five drug den operators were presented to the media on Thursday.
NBI senior investigator Anna Labao deferred to comment if the sex den was run by a congressman while investigation is ongoing.
