After exactly 20 years of winning a silver medal in 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Athlete Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco still hasn’t receive his Php2.5 Million Incentive.
In an interview, Onyok shares his pursue with the promised incentive.
Quoting from his statement, he said “May binigay po sa akin na P750,000 tapos may binago silang batas yata. Nakakuha po ako ng P1.1 million.”
But he also revealed that he was promised to have Php2.5 Million more. The proposal was filed in the House Representative. However, since the upper house was having a leadership dispute during that time, the counterpart measure was not passed.
“Ang P2.5 million sa Congress po iyon, ang House speaker pa po noon si Jose de Venecia. Kasi ipapasa pa sa Congress then sa Senate po. ‘Yung time noon, nagpapalitan pa si Neptali Gonzales at si [Ernesto] Maceda po,” he shared
Onyok sought the help of Senator and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao last Wednesday for his case, which Pacquiao was just too willing to help.
Meanwhile, Hidilyn Diaz won the silver medal after 20 years from PH’s last win with Onyok Velasco.
