MANILA, Philippines – The primary suspect in the gruesome killing of a 29-year-old woman in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro has been arrested on August 8, one day after the crime was committed.
Following continuous operation and profiling of potential suspect in the killing of Queency De Los Reyes, the Socorro MPS has nabbed a certain James Leo O. Macalalad, reportedly a barangay councilor of Brgy. San Vicente in Calapan City.
De Los Reyes’ body was found hogtied wrapped in cloth and packaging tape on August by the roadside Brgy. Pasi Dos, Socorro, Oriental Mindoro on August 7.
A Facebook post by his brother, Carl Jethro De los Reyes, claimed she sustained 21 stab wounds to the different parts of the body. The victim is also believed to have drowned.
On August 9, the Socorro MPS said on its Facebook account that a suspect has been arrested in connection with De Los Reyes’ killing.
“The residence of one James Leo O. Macalalad, Brgy Councilor of Brgy San Vicente, Calapan City was also visited as part of the investigation, but the subject person was not around,” the update read.

During interrogation, investigators discovered that the crime actually happened inside Macalalad’s own house. Blood stains were allegedly found all over the house – including the bedroom – and the suspect was accused of trying to cover his tracks by cleaning the place, to no avail.
Police also found a dog in the suspect’s backyard which turned out to be the slain victim’s pet.
The Socorro MPS also posted a video and photos of the crime scene, including a blood-stained mattress and a shirt which is believed to be owned by De Los Reyes.
The police did not disclose the motive behind the killing, but said the suspect is now under the custody for documentation and filing of appropriate charges.
