- President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to name scalawags in government in the coming days
- He vowed to eradicate corruption by exposing corrupt officials and make them an example before the people
- He also renewed his threat to implement “purge’” in government
MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte renewed his threat to expose corrupt politicians and government officials and vowed to be even harsher this time.
Duterte made the statement during the oath-taking of new appointees in Malacañang on Monday where he also admitted toying with the idea of a “purge” in government.
“I would be very, maybe harsh, double the word, in the coming days because it seems my appeal that this would be a clean government is not registering at all in the gray matter in between the ears of some people in government,” the seemingly disappointed president said.
The president stressed that the country’s perennial problem that is corruption continue to persist, and more corrupt officials will be unmasked in the coming days.
“I still have to show to you the list of scalawags in government, more judges, more policemen mainly, and some politicians,” said the president who disclosed that the government agencies to be included in his next announcement are the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Duterte added he will eradicate corruption and will make examples of these scalawags before the Filipino people.
“I think there is a need really to purge. I don’t want to transgress civil service rules. I do not want to ignore due process,” he added.
However, the president said, those who are ‘clean’ and working will be spared and they will certainly have no problem with his campaign against corruption in government.
