• A Filipina was arrested in Kuwait for pledging allegiance to ISIS
• The arrested woman confessed to authorities she wanted to carry out terrorist acts
• The accused entered Kuwait in June as a household help
A Filipina accused of pledging allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and planning to stage a lone wolf attack was nabbed by Kuwaiti security forces, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said on Friday, August 5.
As per KUNA, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the Filipino national, whose name was withheld, confessed to Kuwaiti authorities she wanted to carry out terrorist act once she could.
The MoI said security authorities have monitored one of the woman’s email accounts where it was discovered that she had pledged allegiance to ISIS. In the particular email, the arrested Filipina appeared to have contacted members of the terrorist group based in Libya.
“The accused confessed that she was ready to carry out any terrorist attack once circumstances and means were available to target a specific section of the society in order to undermine security and stability in Kuwait, as well as ignite sedition,” KUNA quoted officials of the interior ministry as saying.
The Filipina, born in 1984, entered Kuwait only in June as a household help. She was using fake names and nicknames to avoid monitoring, the MoI said.
KUNA published a photo of the Filipina wearing an all-black abaya, the traditional robe-like dress worn by women in most Muslim countries that covers the whole body except the face, feet, and hands.
