China assured the Philippine government of its help in ridding the country of the drug menace.
As mentioned in a Tempo article dated July 31, 2016, the assurance was made at the sidelines of the 36th Association of Southeast Asia Nation Chiefs of Police conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia held on July 26.
Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said he and the Chinese delegates to the 4-day conference met and discussed a lot of things that “hopefully would lead to positive results.”
“We had a bilateral meeting with China in Kuala Lumpur and instructions were given to their people here (in Manila) to proceed to Camp Crame,” Dela Rosa, who returned to the country last Friday, July 29, said.
In his meeting at Camp Crame with persons sent by China to further discuss the two countries partnership in the fight against the illegal drug trade, Dela Rosa said his Chinese counterparts provided him with names of Chinese nationals engaged in the illicit activities.
“For example, we were already provided with the right profile of Peter Co and Peter Lim and the right profile of unknown drug lords,” the PNP Chief said.
“Hopefully, our meeting will have good results because they (Chinese) are also concerned over the three to six months deadline given by the President to the PNP to rid the country of the drug menace,” he added.
Dela Rosa described the information passed by China as “highly valuable, but declined to give more details as they are classified info.
‘They are classified matters. We don’t need to discuss this. But on matters of intelligence it is highly valuable for us,” Dela Rosa said.
