MANBIJ, Syria – Three ISIS militants disguised as women were captured by the opposition forces while trying to flee the war-stricken Manbij in Syria.
David River mentioned in his article for Mirror Co UK that the men were dressed in full black veils and had attempted to blend in with civilians fleeing the northern city of Manjib.
A video clip showing the three men emerged online and was said to be uploaded by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Thursday.
The video began with the men sitting in front of the opposition fighters, with their faces still covered in the female’s traditional veil. A few seconds later, they were then shown walking with their face veils removed, and eventually stripping down to their underwear.
The militants were captured after the terrorist group was given 48 hours to leave the strategic city. Fearing for safety, most civilians are leaving Manjib, which the ISIS fighters took advantage of.
An article by RT News said the Manbij Military Council (MMC), part of the SDF, gave an ultimatum to the ISIS fighters to leave the town on Thursday with their “individual weapons” saying it is their last chance to leave alive.
“This initiative is the last remaining chance for besieged members of Daesh [Arabic acronym for IS] to leave the town,” the MMC said.
However, most IS fighters ignored the warning, remaining in the city and using civilians as human shields.
Ahead of the 48-hour warning, at least 56 civilians were allegedly killed by coalition airstrikes in Manbij, located in the east of Aleppo province. Due to rising civilian casualties, the head of the opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) urged the US-led coalition to suspend its aerial campaign against IS.
