MANILA, Philippines – After a two-day manhunt, the primary suspect in the Quiapo road rage shooting, Vhon Tanto, was reportedly arrested in Bicol on Friday morning, July 29.
According to GMA News, operatives of the Philippine Army arrested Tanto around 11:40 am in a still undisclosed location in the province of Masbate; citing information from Army chief Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año.
Tanto, an Army reservist, was positively identified by witnesses as the driver of the red Hyundai Eon who shot and killed biker Mark Vincent Garalde on Monday following a brief fistfight over a minor traffic altercation along Casal St. in Quiapo, Manila.
General Año earlier announced he has ordered the Army Reserve Command to join the Manila police in the widespread manhunt for Tanto which started on Wednesday evening after the suspect failed to surrender despite an ultimatum from the police.
A ‘shoot-to-kill’ order was also issued against Tanto, while Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada offered P100,000 (now reportedly raised to P200,000) reward for any information that would lead to the arrest or capture of the suspect.
Tanto’s car was recovered at the suspect’s relative in Nueva Vizcaya and was brought to the Camp Crame on Thursday for further investigation.
Authorities said Tanto will be facing murder charges for the killing of Garalde and frustrated homicide for injuring 18-year-old bystander Rocel Bondoc who was hit by a stray bullet believed to have been fired by the suspect.
