If you continuously suffer from bad breath, no matter how many times you brush or gargle, you might be facing a more serious dental problem: tonsil stones.
When we are young, tonsils have several “crypts” or pockets, which gradually close as we age. Some of these pockets, however, remain open.
In this ‘pocket,’ food, mucus, dead cells, and bacteria accumulates until they harden and form small “stones,” also known as tonsilloliths.
These stones are the main cause of bad breath.
You can remove the stones naturally by gargling with salt water and drinking water regularly.
If you prefer a quicker treatment, you can use cotton swabs or tooth brush. Go in front of the mirror and gently push the stones out of your tonsil. Afterwards, gargle with saline water to wash unwanted debris away from the tonsil crypt.
When the pain becomes unbearable, schedule an appointment with your dentist. You may need antibiotics or a surgery.
Don’t look down on bad breath as a simple problem. It might be a symptom to a bigger, more complicated issue.
