BELGRADE, Serbia – A video of a polar bear inside a zoo enclosure while covered in filth and struggling to move emerged online and broke the hearts of the online users.
Sophie Evans mentioned in her article for Mirror Co UK that a Serbian polar bear is seen struggling to stand on his back legs in a heartbreaking video recorded by horrified tourists visiting the attraction at Belgrade Zoo.
The polar bear, who is visibly exhausted and smeared in feces, desperately tries to get to his feet in his zoo enclosure which is one of the biggest attractions for tourists in Serbia.
Footage shows the bear trying to move his limbs buried under himself as he sits on a rock, with his white coat covered in large, brown splurges.
After struggling 20 long seconds, he finally succeeds and gets up to his feet shakily.
The staggering bear then slowly move forward; leaving a trail of ‘feces’ and lean forward to grab some food thrown at the ground.
The video was recorded at Belgrade Zoo which also known as the Belgrade Good Hope Garden, is one of the oldest zoos in Europe. This attraction is home to a staggering 2,000 animals and more than 270 species. It includes various animals like bears, tigers, leopards, chimpanzees and seals.
The video was uploaded by Daniela Staykich and ORPAK organization online, with the caption: “There are the animals confined in cells meter with a meter on concrete! The water is in horrible conditions, green full of bacteria and other infections! We demand that this torture chamber closed or relocated to a location where the animals will get a habitat similar to that of nature! STOP ABUSE! STOP TORTURE ANIMALS IN BEO-ZOO! STOP IT!!!”
As of posting, the footage has been viewed more than 121,000 times.
Change.org is appealing for people to sign the petition to immediately stop the zoo and to stop the torture of animals at the zoo. The petition will be delivered to the organizations like Animal wildfire, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and few others.
