After overpowering Viktor Postol for a title unification bout on Saturday evening, July 23, new WBO and WBC light welterweight champion Terence Crawford reacted to a possible clash between him and currently retired boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao.
Crawford said he intends to fight Pacquiao in the light welterweight division.
Boxing News 24 quoted him as saying: “It will be at 140.”
This means, Pacquiao, who has been fighting as a welterweight (147 pounds) since 2012, needs to lose weight in order to face Crawford.
Crawford emphasized that he’s not worried about the “Pambansang Kamao” because as a fighter, he will fight anybody.
“If Bob Arum wants that fight and my coaches want that fight, that’s something we’ll talk about later. I let my coaches handle that. I am a fighter and I will fight anybody. I’m happy and I’m about to go on vacation. We not worried about Manny Pacquiao right now,” he said.
Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum previously revealed that Pacquiao is ready to come out of retirement and face Terence Crawford inside the boxing ring.
ABS-CBN News quoted the veteran boxing promoter as saying in an interview: “I’ve talked to Manny and he is willing to give [Terence the] opportunity.”
Arum always believed that Crawford is the ideal opponent for Pacquiao.
When the “Pambansang Kamao” still hadn’t confirmed his retirement, Arum said: “If Manny beats Bradley and decides that he wants to keep fighting, then Crawford is the perfect opponent.”
Pacquiao announced his retirement after facing and defeating Timothy Bradley last April to focus on his political career. However, he opened up recently of a possible return inside the boxing ring.
