Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, who is the acting Mayor of the city after his sister, Mayor Sara Dutert-Carpio filed a leave of absence three weeks ago, is now also on leave after filing his own leave of absence on Tuesday, July 19.
The Vice Mayor, according to GMA News Online, did not state the reason for the leave.
The city’s top councilor, Bernard Al-Ag, was appointed as Officer-in-Charge until the Mayor and Vice Mayor return from their leave.
“The vice mayor didn’t say any reasons for his leave but he and the mayor will be back on duty on July 22,” he said.
There were speculations that the siblings were preparing for the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of their father, President Rodrigo Duterte, on July 25.
However, Sara, through a text message to reporters, said she is not attending the first SONA of her father.
Pulong also said he has no plan of attending the SONA, but people around him said he is looking for clothes to wear for the upcoming event.
Both Sara and Pulong are expected to end their respective leaves of absence on Friday, July 22.
