“We are giving the assurance sa ating mga kababayan, na yung tanim bala po, sa administration po ng ating bagong pangulo, is already a thing of the past.” This is what Senior Supt. Mao Aplasca said on Thursday as per President Duterte’s order. Aplasca is the new director of the police Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup).
It can be recalled that this ‘tanim bala’ scheme has victimized a lot even obviously innocents like senior citizens. This was allegedly planted by some of the officials or authorities in the passengers luggage.
In light of that, Aplasca reveals that travelers will be detained or charged in court if there will be an ammunition confiscated from them. Instead, they will just undergo immediate profiling to check if they are connected with any terrorist or criminal groups; or if they have criminal records or intentions for having the bullet. But they would be allowed to be in their flights in the rule that the bullet is not accompanied by any firearms.
“Laglag-bala modus operandi is a thing of the past and we assure the public that they no longer worry that they will miss their flight or get arrested at our airport for possession of an ammunition,” Aplasca emphasized.
Duterte has vowed during his campaign to hunt down the perpetrators of the said scam. He also called the attention of former President Benigno Aquino III at that time to act on the concern as the world has been labeling our airports as one of the worst.
Meanwhile, Aplasca shared that Avsegroup, who is in charge of the security in over 80 airports in the country, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and the transportation department will be working together and form a team to better the security for the airports.
