- Viral photo showed Duterte lining up with everyone else to get his dinner
- He even refused the offer of the man in front to cut in line, insisted he should fall in line
- Another viral photo also showed him chatting happily with the chefs and staff of Malacañang
MANILA, Philippines – As far as President Rodrigo Duterte is concerned, he’s just like everyone else.
Showing yet again his humble side and disdain for VIP treatment, the leader of the country’s 100 million Filipinos was photographed patiently waiting in line to get his food during a Sunday fellowship dinner in the Malacañang Palace.
The picture, which was shared by the Presidential Communications on its Facebook page, quickly went viral and garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews.
In the comments section, a certain Lloyd Ismael del Socorro who said he was the man in front of Duterte shared details on why the president was touching his shoulders.
According to Socorro, he offered for Duterte to go ahead of him in the line. However, the president refused and instead held his shoulders to keep them both in line.
“I’m the lucky guy in front. I told in the Cebuano dialect to please go ahead. He told me he wouldn’t do that; this is a free country. Then he tapped both of my shoulders to stay on the line, and whoala!” Socorro recalled.
Another viral photograph also showed Duterte happily talking with the chefs and waiters during the event.
“President Rodrigo Roa Duterte enjoys a light moment with the Malacañang chefs and wait-staff at a Sunday fellowship dinner in the Palace,” read the caption on the picture.
Earlier, Duterte was also praised for boarding a commercial flight instead of a private jet, in keeping with his promise to bring simplicity to the halls of Malacañang.
