A starstruck Iza Calzado took to social media on Thursday, July 28, to share her brief encounter with English football superstar David Beckham at an upscale health food store in Los Angeles, California.
Iza was in LA to host Binibining Pilipinas USA and Teen USA pageants with Marc Nelson, as per an article published by PEP.
In a post on her Instagram account, the actress shared the “lovely chat” she had with Beckham while at an Erewhon store.
Initially, she thought the guy she saw by the food section was some random good looking man that “looks like Beckham” so she smiled at him and he smiled back.
“Saw him again, exchanged smiles but I wasn’t sure but the tattoos should have been a dead giveaway. I then proceed to line up to pay. He then puts his basket after me,” she wrote.
When she finally summoned the guts, Iza asked: “Sorry but I have to ask, are you David Beckham?” and he confirmed that he is.
“I’m from the Philippines so I’m not really from around here so I had to double check. I’m Iza,” the actress introduced herself and shook hands with Beckham.
Beckham then told Iza that he was in the Philippines nine months ago after being sent by UNICEF for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Yolanda, for which the actress thanked him.
“Thank you, David Beckham, for being a lovely human being! I know you are known for your good looks and football skills but for me, your greatest strength is your kindness. I am now a FAN!” Iza said.
She shared that she decided not to ask for a selfie saying she wants him “to feel more like a human being rather than a piece of public property.”
“Pero Juskoooo, grabe pagpigil ko at Sabay tili pagsakay sa uber!” she gushed.
[But my God, I was fighting my urge but I screamed when I got into an Uber.]
