It was a peaceful farewll to the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines, yesterday, June 30, 2016. The media was able to cover the whole momentous transition from now former President Benigno Aquino III to the new President Rodrigo Duterte.
The morning started with Aquino welcoming Duterte at 10:25 am at Malañang, where Duterte is set to take his oath later that day. The both of them walked for a good 30 minutes before the departure honors started. The whole departure rites were led by the Army and all went peaceful.
Aquino has earlier announced that he is at peace as he leaves the office saying that the country has been better since he assumed office.
“Ang iwan ang bansa sa di hamak na mas magandang kalagayan kaysa sa atin pong dinatnan,” he said last Thursday. Hanggang sa huli, isang malaking karangalan para sa aking paglingkuran ang Pilipino at ang Pilipinas.”
Aquino will now live at his family’s home in Times Street, Quezon City as a private citizen after leading the country for the past 6 years.
