- QCPD operatives killed five members of the notorious Asero Gang during a drug buy-bust operation
- The suspects opened fire when they sensed that the drug deal was a trap
- The body of the man who informed the police of the group’s illegal activities was found hanging inside the suspects’ hideout
Five members of a crime group engaged in carnapping and illegal drug trade were killed when they opted to shoot it out with Quezon City police operatives during a drug buy-bust operation in Novaliches, Quezon City.
The leader of the Asero Gang, Narciso Agabe Asero, was among the slain suspects. One member of the group was arrested.
According to ABS-CBN News, the police were surprised when the body of the man who informed them of the group’s hideout was found hanging inside the shanty where the suspects were tracked down and killed.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said the informant went missing a day after he gave the information about the Asero Gang’s illegal activities. The police official said the informant was apparently abducted and killed by the group.
Eleazar said one of the slain suspects, identified as Jun Catampatan, was one of the several drug users who surrendered to the QCPD on June 22 under “Oplan KaPak operations”; a police campaign that encourages drug users and pushers to surrender and mend their ways.
Recovered from the suspects’ hideout were several firearms, hand grenades, various dismantled parts of motorcycles, several sachets of shabu [methamphetamine hydrochloride] and marijuana.
Eleazar shared that the QCPD had killed a total of 18 drug suspects and arrested almost 300 criminals since July 1.
