- Actress said she was is now willing to forgive the houseboy who killed her mother
- She said forgiveness would be the start of her journey of healing and moving on
- She also said her family “cannot sulk forever”, is still coping with the loss though
MANILA, Philippines – For Cherry Pie Picache, the long road to healing starts with forgiveness.
Commenting on her mother Zenaida Sison’s death for the first time since the conviction of her killer Michael Flores, Picache said she is considering forgiving him if only to move on.
“Just to consider forgiving him is already a big step,” she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “I’m still at the start of this long journey. “My siblings, especially my two sisters who are based in the United States, once told me, ‘You’re willing to forgive him? Are you serious?’”
Flores, a houseboy of Sison, was found guilty of robbery with homicide after he killed her inside her home in September, 2014. He admitted to killing Sison after she discovered him taking her valuables and called for help.
Picache explained that her coping is faster than her siblings’—mainly because she was the one who was physically closest to their mother.
“I had to explain my position to them her siblings. You see, it’s easy to talk to people about healing and forgiveness, but it’s different when it) actually happened to you,” she said. “I can say that my brother and I are in a better state of mind because we get to confront the problem every day. I believe that this helps speed up the healing process. Theirs is delayed because they are more detached.”
At the same time, the actress added they can’t stay stuck in the past forever.
“We cannot sulk forever. Of course, I still think about what happened during my quiet time. I am the one who takes care of my mom’s house. I also deal with the case and am the only one who is still communicating with Michael Flores and those associated with him,” she said.
