LeBron James was unanimously named ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the NBA Finals for the 3rd time following the historic 93-89 win of the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 on the night of June 19, Sunday.
James cemented his legacy after his all-out effort with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. Over the seven-game series, as per an article published by ESPN, James averaged 29.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists, with an effective field goal percentage of 53.3 —fulfilling his promise to lead Cavs to their first NBA title in 52 years; making James the obvious choice for NBA Finals Most Valuable Player.
James is now a three-time Final MVP; having previously won consecutively in 2012 and 2013 when he was still with the Miami Heat. In 2014, he returned to Cleveland as a free agent.
“I came back for a reason,” James said. “I came back to bring a championship to our city. I knew what I was capable of doing. I knew what I learned in the last couple years that I was gone, and I knew if I had to — when I came back, I knew I had the right ingredients and the right blueprint to help this franchise get back to a place that we’ve never been. That’s what it was all about.”
“Best player on the planet,” Cavs teammate Kyrie Irving said. “I’m very thankful that I have a guy like that that’s leading our team that I can continue to learn from.”
James is one of the few NBA superstars to have a triple-double, and winning 3 MVP titles in his career, putting him along side with some of NBA’s all-time greats, trailing only Michael Jordan, as per a CBS story.
With this incredible comeback in NBA history, putting an end to Cleveland’s pro sports title drought since 1964, Cleveland defines itself as a city of champions.
“I’m home,” James said. “This is what I came back for.”
