Seven suspected drug pushers and users were made to do the “Walk of Shame” around Tanauan City in Batangas on Sunday, June 19.
The latest walk of shame was reminiscent of the one made last month where several drug suspects were paraded around the city done Santacruzan-style and dubbed “Flores de Pusher.” This time, the parade was called “June Bride & Groom Flavor of the month.
In a Facebook post of Tanauan City’s Hope, Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili’s official Facebook page, the suspects were identified as 22-year-old Darwin Carandang y Lopez of Barangay Boot, Jenny Magsino y Mercado, 24, of Barangay Mabini, Donna Almario y Mornales 19, of Calamba, Laguna, Joseph Christian y Damgo, 23, of Guiñangan, Quezon, Jomer Apolinario y Russel, 29 of Mamba, Aklan, Cesar Gomez y Tolentino, 30, of San Quintin, Pangasinan, and Jonathan Seroma y Umali, 23, of1 Narvaez, Barangay 4,Tanauan City.
According to the Facebook post, a week of surveillance was made before the Mayor’s Anti-Crime Group led by Allan Fajardo conducted a drug buy-bust operation that resulted to the arrest of the suspects.
A video of the walk of shame showed the mayor’s men holding wooden arches bearing the sign “June Bride & Groom Flavor of the Month over the heads of the suspects, who were made to wear signs that says “Ako ay Pusher, wag tularan” and “Ako ay User, wag tularan.”
Mayor Halili vowed to continue his shame campaign against criminal elements in his city as long as he is the city mayor; despite drawing criticism from the Commission on Human Rights.
