• Top Cebu drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz was laid to rest
• Hundreds of supporters, friends and family attended the wake and joined the funeral procession
• Members of media were barred from entering the church where a requiem mass was held
Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz, tagged as the top drug lord of Central Visayas who allegedly headed a multi-million drug syndicate, was laid to rest on Monday, June 27.
Hundreds of supporters, friends and relatives joined the funeral procession from the slain drug lord’s house to the San Nicolas Parish Church in Cebu City. A drum and bugle corps played during the procession.
It was mentioned in a Sun Star article dated June 27, 2016 that members of the media were barred by his supporters from entering the church where a requiem mass was held.
A lot of those who attended the funeral wore black shirts with “Jaguar’s” face on it. The print on the shirt’s front below his face read “We will miss you” while at the shirt’s back, “We love you!” was printed.
“Jaguar” was buried at a mausoleum, reportedly worth 200,000, in Calamba Cemetery.
In an interview with members of the local media weeks prior to his death, “Jaguar” said he has already left the illegal drugs trade and expressed willingness to help authorities catch other drug personalities. He said he would surrender to President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
However, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña did not believe every word he said.
“His statement that he was retiring was false. Surveillance revealed that he was setting up a new base of operations in Luzon,” the Cebu City mayor said.
“Jaguar” was killed in an encounter with the Regional Intelligence Division-7 headed by Col. Rex Derilo and Regional Special Operations Group-7 headed by Col. George Ylanan in Las Piñas City in Metro Manila on June 17.
