MANILA, Philippines – Outgoing Vice President Jejomar Binay sent a letter to his successor, Vice President-elect Leni Robredo to congratulate her on her victory.
Robredo won against Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the vice presidential race by 263,473 votes.
On her Twitter account, Robredo’s daughter, Aika, shared the letter that the outgoing vice president sent.
Aika thanked Binay for being gracious and added that his team has been very accommodating.
Binay’s letter, dated May 31, read: “Please accept my sincerest congratulations on your proclamation as Vice President of the Republic.
I have instructed my Chief of Staff, Undersecretary Benjamin Martinez Jr., to coordinate with your designated point person at the earliest possible time to discuss the transition. He will be at your disposal.
I look forward to personally meeting you. For the past six years, and despite its modest budget, the OVP has extended assistance to thousands of poor and marginalized Filipinos, including our brothers and sisters working abroad. I am confident that with you as the next Vice President, the OVP will continue to be an instrument for social justice.
Again, my sincerest congratulations.”
Binay’s Chief of Staff, Undersecretary Benjamin Martinez Jr., said earlier this June that they’ll meet with the incoming vice president’s representatives to ensure a smooth transition.
Martinez also disclosed that they started packing Binay’s things at the Coconut Palace.
Robredo will take her oath of office on June 30 at the Quezon City Guest House, popularly known as Boracay Mansion, which will serve as her office because she finds the Coconut Palace ‘too expensive’.
