MANILA, Philippines – More than nineteen years since the ABS-CBN classic soap opera “Mara Clara” aired its last episode, the original cast reunited on Saturday, June 25.
On her Instagram account, Gladys Reyes, who played Clara, shared several photos taken during their reunion.
Among those who attended were Paolo Contis (Jepoy), Angelika dela Cruz (Joyce), Juan Rodrigo (Amanthe del Valle) Susan Africa (Susan Davis), Eagle Rigg (CG),Jochelle Olalia (Karen), Agatha Tapan (Denise), Minnie Aguilar (Lagring), Wowie de Guzman (Christian Torralba), Christopher Roxas (Erris Reyes) and Judy Ann Santos who played Mara.
In one of the photos, Judy Ann and Gladys were seen sharing a good laugh.
Gladys captioned the photo: “We tried our best na gayahin sana ang nsa poster ng Mara Clara pero tawanan ang ending.”
[We tried our best to imitate the pose in the Mara Clara poster but we ended up laughing.]
According to an article published by Philippine Entertainment Portal, Gladys shared that it was Judy Ann who organized the reunion and she helped with the coordination.
‘Talagang pinagtulungan namin ni Mara para mabuo ito (We really collaborated to organize this) and exciting,” she added.
“Mara Clara” aired its pilot episode on August 17, 1992, as an afternoon series.
It focused on the story of two girls Mara and Clara who were switched at birth.
Judy Ann’s soft-spoken and kindhearted character Mara, led the slum life with Susan and Gary Davis, while Clara lived as the spoiled princess of the del Valle household.
In 1996, the show transferred to the primetime slot until its final episode which aired on February 14, 1997
The show earned Judy Ann Santos the title “Queen of Pinoy Soap Opera” and Gladys Reyes as “Primera Kontrabida”.
A remake starring Kathryn Bernardo as Mara and Julia Montes as Clara aired on the Kapamilya Network from October 25, 2010, to June 3, 2011.
