According to the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Pope Francis has appointed a Filipino priest, Fr. Ryan Jimenez will be the second bishop of the Chalan Kanoa diocese in Saipan, which is the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands. Jimenez has been serving as the apostolic administrator of the diocese of over 43,000 faithful since Bishop Emeritus Tomas Camacho’s retirement in 2010, whom which had serve the diocese for 25 years.
The Filipino priest, 44, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre–Divinity from the Ateneo de Manila University before going to Saipan in 1977 and as a major seminarian for the Chalan Kanoa diocese, he resumed his studies at St. Patrick Seminary and gained his Masters Degree in Theology in 2003 at the University in California. Then in the same year, Jimenez was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa on June.
And in his 12 years of being a priest, he had also managed a number of pastoral roles such as: parish vicar, special secretary to the bishop, rector of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral, president of the diocesan commission for the cultural heritage of the Church and diocesan chancellor. Then on the fourteenth day of August, he’s episcopal ordination will took place at the Chalan Kanoa Cathedral.
On the other hand, the primary consecrators at the ordination will be Archbishop Martin Krebs, Apostolic Delegate to the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands and Papal Nuncio to various island countries in the Pacific.
