President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s sister, Eleanor, believes that winning the presidency is, somehow, a destiny.
In a report from Alex Calda of dzMM, which was posted on ABS-CBN News, it was disclosed that the way Eleanor sees it, it is most likely destiny that brought her brother to where he is now.
“Well, there’s such a thing as destiny. Fate and destiny, sometimes, is hard to question,” she said.
Recalling the elected president’s past experiences, Eleanor noted in a jest that their father would probably wonder how the 71-year-old Duterte emerged to become the Philippines’ 16th president.
“My father will probably scratch his head how his son became president,” she said. “‘…tinapon siya ng Ateneo [He has been kicked out from Ateneo],” she shared.
Meanwhile, she believes that their mother, the late Soledad Duterte, would be dumbfounded to know that he is now an elected president; despite being a hard-headed boy both at home and in the school.
“I’m happy not because I’m the sister, but I’m happy that my mother answered my prayer. Siya talaga. Kung buhay lang ang nanay ko, hindi makapaniwala ‘yon [I believe it’s her. If she was only alive, she would not believe that thanks],” said Eleanor.
“If my mother were alive today, she probably will be dumbfounded that her son became the first Mindanaoan to sit in the office,” she added. On Thursday, June 30, the country will usher in its new head of state: Rodrigo Duterte, the 16th President of the Philippines.
Duterte was the mayor of Davao City for more than two decades. He clinched a landslide victory in the May polls.
