MANILA, Philippines – With the public still seething over a colorum van driver who raped and robbed his two female passengers, yet another similar case arose— this time involving a taxi driver who also raped and then robbed his female passenger.
Police arrested Ramil Marco Neric, a taxi driver from Taguig, after his victim—20-year-old “Chloe”—positively identified him as her assailant. He was caught in the taxi lane where he originally picked her together with her friends.
According to ABS-CBN, Chloe and her friends rode Neric’s taxi to go home to their apartment after spending the night at a well-known club in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). While her friends briefly went out of the taxi to use a restroom, Neric suddenly drove off with the inebriated victim to a motel in Pasig where he raped her.
Neric—who also took his victim’s money and valuables—then drove her back to the apartment where her friends were waiting.
They then reported the incident to the police and showed them a picture of Neric which they were able to get after taking a selfie inside his taxi.
Pressed for comment, Neric could only ask for forgiveness from his victim. His wife also showed up and pleaded with the victim not to press charges, saying he is only 25 years old and has two children.
For his part, BGC Station Commander Insp. Rommel Bulan warned women not to get drunk especially at night when they have to take public vehicles.
Charges of rape and robbery are currently being prepared against Neric.
