WASHINGTON COUNTY, Maryland – A Filipino-American federal police officer was arrested on Friday following a shootings happened in shopping centers in Washington County, Maryland.
In a video report by ABS-CBN News on May 7, it was revealed that the series of shootings led to the death of three people, including the police officer’s estranged wife, and left three others wounded
The officer, identified as 62-year-old Eulalio Sevilla Tordil, is a member of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service. Tordil was arrested in a doughnut shop near the site of the second shootings.
The police officer, now a suspect for killings, was also being investigated in Thursday’s shooting which resulted in the death of his wife at a school in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
In an article by The Washington Post it was disclosed that the violence started on Thursday evening, as per police report; when Tordil fatally shot his estranged wife, Gladys Tordil, outside High Point High School in Beltsville. A bystander who had tried to help was wounded.
Information from Federal Protective Service said that Gladys was a chemistry teacher, and was shot when she went to pick up their two daughters from the school. The suspect, who was on leave, surrendered his gun and badge after his wife obtained a protective order to keep him away.
The first shooting on Friday happened in the morning when Tordil was involved in a confrontation in a parking lot at Westfield Montgomery Mall in affluent Bethesda, Maryland. Two men and a woman were shot at the time. One of the men died, while the other was in left critical condition. The woman had been declared out of danger.
Friday’s second shooting took place about half an hour later; killing a woman at the Aspen Hill Shopping Center in Silver Spring, some 8 miles (13 kilometers) away.
An article by Inquirer said that Tordil was spotted in a Dunkin’ Donuts in Aspen Hill Shopping Center area and was arrested by officers on civilian clothes.
“We did not want to have a shootout when he was taken into custody,” Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger.
Charges have been filed against Tordil.
