- Vice President Jejomar Binay urged the public to respect the outcome of the elections
- He said everyone should move towards healing and unity for our divided land
- Binay is currently in fourth place in the presidential race as indicated by the partial and unofficial of Comelec
Outgoing Vice President Jejomar Binay asked the Filipino people to respect whatever the outcome of the May 9 elections would be.
The vice president continues to trail in the presidential race as indicated by the partial and unofficial vote tally of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Transparency Server.
GMA News Online noted that according to the Comelec transparency server, as of 10:47 p.m. on Monday, May 9, and with 73.90 percent of the nationwide election returns, Binay is at fourth place with 4,262,064 votes.
“I have repeatedly called for respecting institutions and the democratic process. Once the process is completed, we should always respect the outcome,” Binay said in a press statement.
“We should all move towards healing and unity for our divided land,” he added.
Earlier, Binay, through his spokeman Atty Rico Quicho, claimed that it was still mathematically possible for the vice president to win the presidential race.
VP Binay’s camp also claimed that pro-Binay voters were disenfranchised.
Inquirer’s Marc Jason Cayabyab wrote in his article that was published on May 9, 2016 that according to Binay camp’s communications director Joey Salgado, the Liberal Party allegedly blocked voters supportive of Binay.
“There’s a clear, emerging pattern to target specific bailiwicks of the vice president in Mindanao, in areas where the vice president is strong,” Salgado said, adding he received reports on the ground that pro-Binay voters were not allowed to vote.
