- Mayor Duterte extended hand of reconciliation to opponents
- “Let us begin the healing now,” he said
- His offer is given to everybody, even to Senator Trillanes
Presidential hopeful Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, May 9, offered an “olive branch” to his opponents in the presidential race and even to Senator Antonio Trillanes who accused him of having undeclared P211 million bank deposits.
“It is important to say now…at this moment. I would like to address myself to my opponents. Well, this past few days are quite virulent for all of us – the black propaganda, and the false accusation exchange between two sides. And I would say these are really part of a day’s work in election. I would like to say to reach a hand to my opponents. Let us begin the healing now,” Tricia Macas of GMA News Online quoted Mayor Duterte as saying during a press conference at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City.
“Let us forget and start the healing. Let us be friends. Let us forget the travails of the elections,” he added.
He told reporters the offer is extended to everybody, including Senator Trillanes.
“If you don’t accept the goodwill, fine, then I will take it,” he said.
As of 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, Mayor Duterte is leading the presidential race as the partial and unofficial vote count showed 10,956,808 while Senator Grace Poe got 6,228, 126.
