After the recent drug abuse-related deaths at a concert in Pasay City, Senator Vicente Sotto III warned authorities of an over-the-counter pain killer that can be easily abused by the youth.
In a privilege speech on Tuesday, May 31, Sotto revealed how WariActiv, commonly known as “Wari” to the young generation, is abused by the youth and partygoers to get “high”, as per an article published by Rappler.
Sotto added that WariActiv could be bought over-the-counter and even via internet for P750 up to P1,500.
He warned that the muscle spray could have been one of the drugs or substances used in the rave party on May 21 at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City that resulted to the death of at least 5 concertgoers.
WariActiv Ethylchloride Spray, based on its Facebook page, is described as “a vapocoolant that acts as an immediate relief for muscle pain associated with sports injuries and other muscle-bearing movements.”

Sotto endorsed WariActiv for scrutiny and tests by the Dangerous Drugs Board, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Food and Drug Agency to determine the need for protocol for its purchase, as per an article published by Inquirer.
“Marijuana and mind-altering substances are openly peddled and presumed. It’s a different ballgame. We do not mean to curtail their fun, we just want them to stay alive after the party’s over,” he added, noting that the rave phenomenon has become an “enabler and facilitator of the illegal drugs trade, use and abuse.”
