NAIA issues again?
One can never imagine the sacrifices of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), who chose to work in a foreign land away from their families, just to give their loved ones a taste of a better life. So you can almost imagine the displeasure they feel when they think they are being taken advantage of by no less than their fellow Pinoys.
Architect Dennis Silades, an OFW working in a bank in Saudi Arabia as a Project Manager, was so infuriated after his baggage was purportedly opened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. And to make matters worse, Php10,000-worth of hard-earned ‘pasalubong‘ were allegedly stolen from his bag.
Silades, who came home for a one-month vacation, was enraged to find out that some of the goods he brought for his family have gone missing from his suitcase – chocolates, shirts, pants, jackets, and two pieces of brand new Casio watches. He suspects that his baggage was opened at the NAIA Terminal 1 as it took 30-minutes before his bag came out of the conveyor.
“Iyong galit ko, nakakaasar na, alam mo ‘yun, na wala ka nang magawa. Kung sino man ‘yung may gawa nun, sana maging parehas sila. Pinaghirapan namin ‘yun eh, ‘di naman namin pinulot ‘yung mga ganung gamit eh. Pinagpuyatan namin ‘yun, sinakripisyo namin ‘yung oras namin eh [I was furious but couldn’t do anything. Whoever did this, I hope they play fair. We worked hard and sacrificed a lot for those things]”, Silades said in an interview with TV Patrol’s Dominic Almelor.
Silades said he tried to call NAIA hotline but was only passed around; the reason why he brought his gripe on social media via a Facebook post which has already gone viral; having been shared nearly 5,000 times.
According to the NAIA Terminal 1 administration, Silades needs to go to their office and file a complaint, while Dante Basanta, NAIA Terminal 1 Manager, said they will review the CCTV cameras and make sure to dismiss whoever the culprit was.
With just a few weeks left to his vacation, Silades said he can no longer afford to go to NAIA office. He said he can only share his experience to warn other OFWs to avoid the same incident.
