MILAN, Italy – With the continuous reminder of Comelec to not take selfies with their ballots, one overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Milan was caught taking a picture of his ballot.
According to GMA News Online, an election inspector heard the clicking of a camera while an OFW was casting his vote during an overseas absentee voting (OAV) which occurred at the Philippine Consulate in Milan, Italy. The cellphone was not confiscated, reported Chet de Castro Valencia of GMA News, but the owner was later instructed by the election officer to delete the photo.
The OFW claimed that he failed to go through the posters that state taking pictures of ballots are prohibited.
It was earlier pronounced by the Comelec that reproduction of a copy of a ballot is not allowed to protect the vote, and a photograph is essentially a copy.
The poll body has already recorded cases of voters taking selfies with ballots in Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong, Brunei, Vientienne Laos and Madrid.
Some online users say it was just probably because the guy want to secure a proof of his vote. One commenter said:

The voter only wants the public to know who he voted for. If taking pictures is not allowed and they also take the receipt, what else can we use as a proof of our vote? People will really do anything just to win].”
