- Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte said that the stresses of campaigning made a negative effect on his health
- He said that he stayed out of public eye after the election day to finally get some rest
- Pastor Apollo Quiboloy shared that Duterte collapsed during one of his campaign sorties
Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte admitted to the public that the excessive stresses he experienced during his nationwide campaign for the presidency have produced a negative effect on his health.
In an article written by Trisha Macas for GMA News Online on May 23, 2016, it was disclosed that the incoming chief executive opted to stay out of public eye after the May 9 elections to finally get some well-deserved rest.
“I just came out about three days earlier. I had a long rest, and all along during the campaign, I was carrying this virus in me that causes my bronchial infection. I took antibiotics for five days before the doctor allowed me to get out,” Duterte said.
According to one of Duterte’s most trusted allies, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, Inc., the outgoing leader of Davao City had actually collapsed during one of his campaign sorties.
“In fact, si Mayor napaka-busy, 24 hours, na-collapse na nga halos may isang beses [Mayor was so busy for 24 hours that he collapsed for at least once],” Quiboloy said.
However, instead of taking things seriously, Duterte even made fun of his situation and related it to how the public reacted to Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s illness.
“May cancer ako. Oo, may sakit ako. Nagkaroon ako ng appendicitis. Then, iyong throat ko nag-ano. I found out that stage four iyong cancer ko. Sinasabi ko na sa inyo. Iyong lungs ko wala nang pumapasok na hangin. [I have cancer. Yes, I am sick. I had appendicitis. Then something happened to my throat. I found out that my cancer is already on stage four. I am already telling you these. Air does not come to my lungs anymore],” Duterte said in jest.
