LONDON, United Kingdom – London commuters will be closer to the beauty and fun the Philippines can offer as their train station was dressed up showing the sun, sands and surf of the country.
Jessica Bartolome mentioned in her article for GMA News published on May 27 that the London Waterloo Station was recently transformed into an immersion zone where train commuters were given a preview on what fun they’re missing for not visiting the Philippines.
A video, posted by the Philippine Department of Tourism’s (PDOT) YouTube channel on Friday, showed banners and posters emphasizing the “It’s more fun in the Philippines” slogan covering the train station at London.
There are also photo booths on the station which features iconic tourism spots in the Philippines, thus enabling the commuters to have their pictures taken, as if they are spending holidays in the Philippines. Other booths were also put up allowing visitors to wear a heads up virtual reality display where they could “experience” snorkeling and swimming with dolphins and whale sharks.
An article by Rappler said that lucky commuters who dropped by the different booths were given instant prizes, with some who even won air tickets to the Philippines to make their dream vacation come true.
“The whole thing is branded as Philippines so that in itself gives them an island feeling. Now it’s very cold, so they want to have this feel of island so it’s been very good so far. And we have offsite promotions as well,” said Gerard O. Panga, tourism attache, and director of the Embassy of the Philippines in London.
The “station domination” was organized by the DOT as part of the Visit Philippines Again 2016 campaign, which was conducted from April to May of this year.
