- Senator Trillanes and Duterte’s lawyer Atty. Sal Panelo showed up at the BPI-Julia Vargas branch
- Supporters of both camp also trooped to the site early
- Robin Padilla, a supporter of Mayor Duterte, was also spotted in the area
As early as 6:30 in the morning, twenty policemen and seven members of the Special Weapons and Tactics or SWAT arrived at the BPI – Julia Vargas branch where Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s lawyer Atty. Sal Panelo will meet in a bid to settle the lawmaker’s allegation that Duterte had P211 million in his bank account.
The management of Antel Global Building that houses the BPI branch requested police assistance in anticipation of a possible standoff between the supporters of both camp.
Supporters of both camps trooped to the site early. Actor Robin Padilla, an avid supporter of Duterte, was also spotted in the area.
ABS-CBN wrote that Atty. Sal Panelo arrived at the bank branch at past 10 a.m. He showed reporters the Special Power of Attorney (SPA) granted to him by Duterte giving him authority to open the mayor’s bank account.
“The SPA proves Duterte’s innocence that no such amount exists in the mayor’s account,” Panelo said.
Duterte agreed to open his back account at the said branch to debunk the allegation of Senator Trillanes on condition that the lawmaker must present an affidavit on his allegation and identity of his sources.
Senator Trillanes turned up at the bank a little before 11 a.m. He did not issue any statement.
While Atty. Panelo and Senator Trillanes were inside the bank, supporters of both sides gathered outside. A shouting match between the two groups ensued as they waited for developments on the controversy.
After 30 minutes, Senator Trillanes left the bank without issuing a statement. GMA News Online wrote that the senator will give a statement at the Magdalo Headquarters in Quezon City.
