MANILA, Philippines – Amid Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo’s mounting lead over their bet after trailing by more than a million votes at one point, the campaign adviser of Sen. Bongbong Marcos said he will ask the Commission on the Elections (Comelec) for a breakdown of the votes and to stop the unofficial tally as of now.
“We do not know where these votes are coming from,” Abakada party-list Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz told Rappler. “The unofficial count may confuse the public because we have an official count, and if the unofficial count doesn’t tally with the official count there will be a problem.”
At the same time, Dela Cruz also maintained confidence Marcos would eventually come out on top in the end.
“We are certain that we will win this election. Our internal survey is quite reflective of the Social Weather Survey exit polls which showed that Sen. Marcos led the Vice Presidential survey with 34.9 percent as against Rep. Leni Robredo’s 32.5 percent,” he said.
The ongoing neck and neck race between Robredo and Marcos has triggered a word war among their followers in social media, with the latter’s supporters accusing the administration of employing ‘Plan B’ which is to replace incoming president Rodrigo Duterte with Robredo in the future.
On the other hand, Robredo’s supporters have called the accusations absurd and pointed to her strong showing in the Visayas and Mindanao as the real reason behind her late-minute surge in the polls.
