- Davao City mayor finally revealed his BPI peso and dollar account to the public
- His peso and dollar account showed only P120K and $ 5K as of March 31, 2014
- He also blasted Trillanes and asked why AMLC failed to probe him if he indeed received millions
MANILA, Philippines – In a bid to disprove Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s accusations once and for all, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte presented on Wednesday, May 4 his peso and dollar accounts with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to show they never contained millions as alleged by the solon.
During a press conference with the Philippine Star, the mayor showed a copy of his BPI peso account which he jointly holds with his daughter Sara. The account showed only P17,816.98 since March 31, 2014 although it has since ballooned to P128,829.34 following a series of deposits to confirm its existence.
As for the dollar account, the total balance contained $ 5,021.70.
Both amounts were certified correct by BPI.
In presenting his accounts’ transaction history, Duterte said this proves Trillanes’ accusations were baseless. At the same time, he said he could not provide a certificate for the transactions dating back to March 28, 2014 which is the day Trillanes said he purportedly received at least P200 million as his birthday gift because the same never happened at all.
“Ayaw nga mag-certify ng bangko kasi [The bank would not certify the transaction because it is] non-existent (March 28, 2014). Nakakuha ako ng [I got a] certification (March 31, 2014) because it is true,” GMA News quoted him as saying.
Duterte added he would have already been pinned down by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and other government agencies if he indeed received such a large amount of money on that date posited by Trillanes.
“That is criminal negligence if they did not act on it. Why was I not investigated? What kind of agency are you. You allow dirty money floating in banks. You should have helped each other find the P2.4 billion,” he said, pertaining to Trillanes’ claim his accounts allegedly contained billions.
