Park Sang-hyun, brother of Korean pop star and former actress in the Philippines Sandara Park, is earning himself new Filipino fans after doing a cover of an original composition of a Filipino singer Raymond Lauchengco “Farewell.”
In a video posted on Wheninmanila.com, Park sang the cover with his fellow Korean singer JeA of the Korean pop group Brown Eyed Girls.
Kim Hyo-jin, or better known by her stage name JeA, in a post written on her social media account, said she came to know the song when Filipino kids sang it to her when she was leaving the Philippines after she completed her voluntary work, said an article published on ABS-CBN.
She added she was so impressed on how the kids sang it to her and from then on, she hoped she can sing a cover of the song someday.
JeA explained she chose Park because he spent his childhood in the Philippines.
Park, who goes by the stage name Cheondung, lived in the Philippines prior to her sister’s decision to go back to South Korea to pursue her singing career and became part of the pop group 2NE1. Cheondung, meanwhile, followed her and became a member of the boy group created by South Korean entertainer Rain MBLAQ.
Cheondung posted the video link on his Twitter account and has been retweeted by his sister Dara.
Since the posting of the said cover, Cheondung and JeA are making a buzz online and have been praised by their fans for doing the duet, Jonathan M. Hicap wrote in an article in Manila Bulletin.
The song “Farewell” was originally used as a soundtrack for the 1984 movie “Bagets.” It has been used and sang in graduation ceremonies and continues to be one of the favorite hits among karaoke aficionados.
