- The ‘historical’ wooden chair which Mayor Duterte used in the May 9 elections will be kept in a museum in Davao City
- Inscribed on a masking tape, the chair was marked: “The historical chair used by Mayor Rody Duterte while casting vote in the May 9, 2016 national election”
- Mayor Duterte has clearly won the presidency by a wide margin, with total votes nearly twice as his nearest rival Mar Roxas
- Rodrigo Roa Duterte will be the first Mindanaoan president of the Philippines
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – What can be more historical now than the wooden armchair used by presumptive president-elect Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to cast his vote?
To the Davaoenos, that chair is certainly historical. And they are serious about preserving it.
The teachers at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) plan to keep the chair in Museo Dabawenyo as a memento of the 2016 elections that has now virtually secured their long-time mayor a presidential seat.
The ‘historical’ chair was marked using a masking tape and a pentel pen with the following words:
“The historical chair used by Mayor Rody Duterte while casting vote in the May 9, 2016 national election
BEI’s: Chairman: Mary Rose Digal
Poll Clerk: Marites Cabilogan
Member: Molly Bacud
Support staff: Jessa Cagumbay/Gina Gutib”
According to ABS-CBN News, the teachers will let the mayor use the same chair on the next election, but for the mean time, the chair has to be preserved in the museum.
The final counting has yet to finish but the tough-talking mayor has clearly won the presidency by a wide margin; most of his adversaries, including top rival Mar Roxas, have since conceded and his comfortable lead has essentially sealed him the presidency. As of posting, Duterte is enjoying a 6 million lead against his nearest rival.
Rodrigo Roa Duterte will be the first Mindanaoan president of the Philippines.
