- He said it may happen sometime in June this year

MANILA- Good news for travelers and those who are wanting to visit Japan because starting June this year, a visa will not be a necessity in order to visit the land of the rising sun.
“We are just awaiting the official advice, but from reliable sources and from the newspaper accounts that have come out already, it seems that it’s likely going to happen sometime in June of this year,” announced the Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manolo Lopez in an article published by ABS-CBN.
Lopez explained the ease in visa requirement is part of Japan’s plan to boost its economy through tourism. He said Japan is targeting 20 million tourists in six years and prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Since the administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe came into power in December 2012, the country’s economy has boosted up. By focusing on tourism, they would be able to sustain the momentum. Additionally, they have realized there is a lot of wealth in Southeast Asian countries.
Japanese visa, with its strict requirements and screening process, is one of the toughest to get for Filipino tourists. However, on 2013, the Japanese government has eased its visa policy for Southeast Asian countries by issuing multi-entry tourist visas, said an article published by Inquirer. Multi-entry tourist visa is issued to those who will travel to Japan for business reasons, artists and specialists and immediate family members of Japan residents.
