- A new flying machine was unveiled by Franky Zapata, inventor of Flyboard
- He called the device Flyboard Air
- The machine can fly autonomously up to 10,000 feet high
Franky Zapata, inventor of Flyboard, a water jetpack attached to a jet ski via a long hose that carry the high-pressure water stream from the watercraft to the nozzles underneath the flyboard to push the rider up to 30 feet in the air, has unveiled his latest invention – the Flyboard Air.
The Flyboard Air operates similar to the original Flyboard, but ditched the jet ski and the hose to send the user flying through the sky. It is purportedly powered by a jet turbine engine and a back pack fuel tank.
Zapata Racing, a company founded by Franky Zapata, claimed that the independent propulsion unit can fly autonomously up to an altitude of 10,000 feet and capable of flying up to 150 kilometers per hour and has enough power for a 10-minute flight.
Over the weekend, Zapata released the first video of his new invention in action.
In the video, Zapata was shown testing the Flyboard Air. He was shown flying through the air with a seemingly great ease.
The video, however, did not show him taking off; leading many to doubt the authenticity of the device.
“The video is undoubtedly incredible, but sad to say that there’s no way that this can be real, right? I mean, the laws of physics simply won’t allow it,” one comment goes.
Another big figure of doubt is how Zapata is controlling the Flyboard, as it seems like he is just standing very still on it, unless he is subtly shifting his weight on it to make it work,” BRT said; as the video failed to clearly show how Zapata is controlling the flying machine and what exactly is powering it, although he was seen holding a joystick that appears to be wired into the base of the device.
Zapata Racing said the Flyboard Air is in the prototype sage and won’t be on the market this year.
