Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao won in his fight with Timothy Bradley via a unanimous decision on Sunday (Manila time); marking a good end in his boxing career.
In an article written by Dan Rafel for ESPN on April 10, 2016, it was disclosed that the boxer cum politician successfully staged a “near-vintage performance” for the match which he said is his last.
“I was looking for a knockout in every round. He’s a very tough fighter and a very good counterpuncher. Bradley is a good boxer, a great fighter and a good man. It was not easy tonight but my right shoulder was fine. It gave me no problems,” Pacquiao told reporters.
The 37-year-old sports icon from the Philippines scored 58 wins, six losses, and two draws throughout his career, and among his victories, 38 were won by knockout.
This time, he successfully finished his trilogy match with Bradley; a two-time former World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion who holds a record of 33 wins, two losses, and 1 draw, with 13 victories won by knockout.
“Manny was very strong in there. Very heavy punches. He was also very patient. I wasn’t professional enough to stay patient myself and I walked into shots,” Bradley said about Pacquiao.
According to statistical data released by CompuBox, the Pacman landed 122 out of 439 punches, while Bradley was only able to reach 99 out of 302 blows.
Asked by reporters about his official status in the field of boxing, Pacquiao said, “As of now I am retired. I am going to go home and think about it, but I want to be with my family. I want to serve the people [of the Philippines].
