OKEECHOBEE, Florida – A photo showing a massive 354-kilogram alligator was tracked down by hunters in a farm in Florida.
Olivia B. Waxman mentioned in her article for Time published on April 6 that the alligator was caught in Outwest Farms located at Okeechobee, Florida.
The farm owner, Lee Lightsey, along with his son, Mason, and their guide Blake Godwin with additional two hunters, discovered the creature on Saturday at one of the ponds on their private ranch.
Mason, nine years old, shared that it is not the first time he went along for a hunting trip and described it as “not scary at all” to hunt a massive animal. The young kid was also seen posing next to the animal after it was raised above the ground using a tractor’s loader.
The picture was posted on Outwest Farms Facebook page, where the online community was left stunned about the size of the animal.
“We were on a hunt for hogs and happened to come across the gator. There are natural ponds and waterways around for the cows to drink,” said Godwin as quoted by Amanda Jackson and Anne Woolsey in their article for CNN published on April 7.
“There are lots of gators out there. It’s the start of mating season. This was a big one,” Lightsey said.
The alligator weighs 354 kilograms (780 pounds) was estimated by Mason as “almost probably close to 15 feet.”
“It’s just fun to see a great day for the hunters, the big ones like that are exciting for the hunters,” Lightsey said.
Meanwhile, some online users are doubting the authenticity of the photo; saying the alligator looks fake.
“There’s a lot of folks saying that, but it’s 100% real. I took that picture (referring to the photo of Mason laying on the alligator), the photo is real,” Godwin said.
