MASBATE, Philippines – On Saturday, Fr. Lorenzo Bautista in his homily urged Presidential aspirant Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to uphold his promise to eradicate criminality, graft and corruption, and drugs by saying, “Kapag ikaw ang naging Presidente, marami kaming ipapapatay sa iyo (When you become president, we have a list of criminals we want you to kill)“.
The rector of the Masbate Cathedral when asked if he was serious or was just joking when he stated that, said it was a joke but admitted he supports Duterte’s bid to eliminate those who are heavily involved in drugs, crime, and graft and corruption.
In a 20-second video posted by GMA News Online reporter Cedric Castillo on Twitter, Fr. Bautista was quoted as saying, “It is a joke. Pero kung marami dito ang dapat patayin (ano) na involved in the criminalities, corruption, and drugs, I am with him (It is a joke. But if there is a need to kill those who are are involved in the criminalities, corruption, and drugs, I am with him) “.
It is a known fact to every Filipino that crime, drug use, and corruption in the government system are rampant in the Philippines. Duterte, who attended a mass at the cathedral during his campaign rally in Masbate, said it’s natural that even priests are concerned about these issues that greatly torment the country.
In his many rallies all over the country, Duterte vows to end crime in 3-6 months should he get elected as President.
