MANILA, Philippines – Following a viral video circulating online showing a Liberal Party organizer allegedly handing out ‘envelopes’ during a campaign sortie held at Pikit, North Cotabato, LP presidential bet Mar Roxas denies any involvement in the cash envelope distribution.
According to GMA News Online, Roxas told reporters he does not condone such activity. He said:
“Mariin ko pong kinokondena itong mga gawain na ito. Hindi ito kasama sa ating plataporma, programa, at gawain [I deeply condemn such act. This is not part of our platform, of our program, or activity]”.
“Hindi ko pa nakikita ang video, pero kung nangyari nga ito, aalamin natin kung sino ‘yung mga organizers dito at paparatingin natin ‘yung ating pananaw na hindi tama ito at dapat itigil ito [I have not personally seen the video, but if this really happened we will investigate and let them know that this is wrong and should be stopped].”
Barry Gutierrez, Akbayan Representative and spokesman of the Daang Matuwid coalition, asserted that the issue is now under investigation.
“Kasalukuyan naming inaalam kung ano ang katotohanan sa likod ng video na ito [We are now investigating the truth behind this video] said Gutierrez in a statement; adding: “Malinaw ang mandato namin sa mga lokal na nag-oorganisa ng mga ganitong events—bawal ang mga ganitong bagay [Our instructions were clear, we do not tolerate these kinds of things]”.
The controversial video, which recorded a Roxas organizer asking the audience to cheer harder, or they won’t get an ‘envelope’ – which allegedly contained money – has already been shared 31,209 times as of posting.
